The adaptation of film material “Film Look”
Most of the currently produced film materials are created with digital technology. Its availability is so common that for creating your own home video (from vacation, for example) all we need is a simple DV camera, editing software and a little bit of patience.
However, what makes a high-budget movie, watched on TV or in a movie theater, different from a movie that we can create at home? Is it thanks to the high-end equipment that costs hundreds of thousands of euros that we are able to produce such a picture? It is true in a way ... However, behind the equipment there must be people. Dozens of vigilant people make sure that everything works according to plan. Cameramen, screenwriters, monteurs, the special effects team, etc.
Is it possible, however, to create the ”impression of a big-budget production” with a tighter budget? The answer is ”yes”. The effects of such a production are not only reached through care for ”narrow frames”, long and fluid takes, short focus field, or the work with 24 frames per second. The effects of such a production are reached through a special care for detail and a skill of making the viewers look exactly where we want them to look. A narrow focus frame and spot lighting are only some tools used to create an integrated whole.
Film Look by Gecko Media
GECKO Media developed post-production methods that make it possible to create this unique film impression. It is a set of complex color filters that are based on ”S curve” and “motion-blur” masks. All this is done so that the final product satisfies both the viewer and the client.
